The Boalsburg Apothecary was founded in 1980 by Donald and Anne Farber. The Farber’s vision for their pharmacy was to provide Boalsburg and the surrounding communities with an independent, community pharmacy focused on collaboration with area physicians to provide superior expertise and service to their pharmacy patients. Indeed, the use of Apothecary in the name pays homage to the earliest days of pharmacy, when an apothecary was a medical professional who was sought out for general medical advice as well as the prescribing and compounding of medications. Don embraced the challenge of finding the best solution for his patients and their doctors, often relying on his compounding expertise.
As a result of their hard work and dedication, Boalsburg Apothecary quickly became a fixture in the local community and earned the reputation as the “go to” pharmacy for unique prescription needs and superior customer service. In 2001, the pharmacy was purchased by Mark and Jean Doyle, with a commitment to carrying on the Farber’s vision. In support of the Apothecary’s goal of finding unique solutions to healthcare challenges, in 2002 Boalsburg Apothecary partnered with Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA) to further enhance and expand our compounding operation and expertise. Through PCCA’s world premier compounding training program, our compounding staff is wholly trained on the art and science of compounding. The PCCA raw materials (bases and chemicals) used in our preparations undergo a comprehensive quality assurance/quality control program that is unmatched in the industry and yields a product quality that is second to none. Our compounding practice allows us to create just the right medication for you or your pet’s needs.
In 2012, Neil and Kelly Foster purchased the pharmacy and are committed to furthering the vision and legacy of Boalsburg Apothecary. We strive to continue the traditions of pharmacy as it was meant to be practiced. We greet our patients by name and understand their unique needs. We don’t use automated phone systems, our pharmacists and technicians are accessible for questions and concerns, and we don’t have long wait times. We work closely with our patients to ensure they understand their medications and the proper usage. We understand the value of staying current on industry standards and technologies as they pertain to enhancing overall healthcare. While our service may be “old fashioned”, our status in the industry is not.
The dedicated Boalsburg staff embraces and embodies the concept of community pharmacy and are ready to serve your pharmacy needs. We appreciate our local community and our patients’ dedication to supporting locally-owned, independent businesses. We look forward to continuing to serve our community with the same level of care and customer service our customers have grown to expect and deserve.
